Joomla Speedy Plugin will install the PHP Speedy Library and configure it through the Plugin's parameters.

Hello there,

Thanks for doing the PHP speedy 1.5 plugin. By chance just came by yesterday and found that you had done it. I loaded it on my site and it seems to work ok (it is combining the files) but it seems to put the combined files lower in the head section.

Some of the components I use (namely jReviews and Community Builder) output both external js files and regular "script" tags. I'm getting a few javascript error for those, as some of them depend on the files that are in the now combined javascript.

I realize that PHP Speedy is probably doing the javascript placement - but is there a way to use the Joomla method of "addScript."

Using that method will put it higher in the head and maybe avoid some of the problems I'm having.

If you have any ideas on how to do that, I'll look into it and see if I can do it myself. I'm not too familiar with PHP Speed script, so I thought I'd ask you first to see if you had any ideas on how to do that.

If you want to see the errors yourself, send me a message or email as the site is still in development.

Thanks.

Steve

Thanks for the bug report. I will try and fix it in the next update.

The speedy library is actually a standalone library developed by http://aciddrop.com/

The Plugin provides integration of the library with Joomla. So the fixes have to be made into the standalone library and approved by the developer before getting into the Joomla plugin. So it takes a bit more time.

I've decided to branch the PHP Speedy library in Joomla so updates can be quicker. The source is availabe via subversion at:

https://joomla-php-speedy.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/

Project page: http://code.google.com/p/joomla-php-speedy/

If you need update access let me know.

The file you probably want to look at is:
http://code.google.com/p/joomla-php-speedy/source/browse/trunk/plug_speedy-J1.5/php_speedy/controller/compressor.php

Thanks a lot for the work. It does still have some problems combining files, has the order of plugins anything to do with it?

If you take a look at http://www.axxell.fi it does leave a lot of files not combined.

Place it right at the bottom. See if that catches the JavaScript created by other plugins.

Hi there,

Yeah, I knew it was developed at acid drop. I've tried before to integrate it with Joomla 1.5, but I couldn't get it to work. I did a few other things that basically gave me enough "speed up" to not have to use PHP Speedy. I came back to look at it because of all the javascript files Community Builder spits out.

I've looked at the compressor file a little bit, and couldn't find where the compressed files are output - it is simply placing it in the head after the last occurance of a script or css file?

I have some projects that really need to get done, so I can't look at it too much, but I guess my idea for the future would be to see if PHP Speedy can return both the script and the css files in variables to the bot_speedy file, then you can add the files to the head with Joomla's addScript method, which puts it pretty high up in the head (and might avoid some of the problems with scripts referencing a library not yet loaded).

Just a thought.

Steve
