Joomla Speedy Plugin will install the PHP Speedy Library and configure it through the Plugin's parameters.

Parameters 3 Years ago Karma: 0
I have installed the plugin on a test site to begin with, and was wondering if you could offer some guidance and advice regarding the parameters of the plugin.

I have installed 'smartoptimizer' onto the test site, and was wondering if the php speedy plugin is still suitable to use in conjunction with smartoptimizer, (so long as the same requests are not duplicated, hence turning off gzip with the speedy plugin)?

Also, the whitelist and the blacklist. Would you mind giving me some guidance on the use of those particular parameters, please?

Many thanks.
Paul.

You will need to make sure the smartoptimizer and speedy do not clash. If optimizer gzips the pages, then it speedy must not be set to gzip it, or it will come out as gibberish. Speedy will try to detect if a page is already gzipped, however, if smartoptimizer is set to load after speedy (plugin ordering in admin panel), then it may do a double gzip if smartoptimizer does not do a check first. This goes for the other settings as well. Speedy does not make checks for any other setting, except Gzip.

Blacklist:

Any components you place in the blacklist will not load with speedy.
The value for a component can be found in the URL, it is the value for the "option" parameter. For example, content will be "com_content" and in the URL you should see "option=com_content".

So if you don't want speedy to load when viewing content, then add "com_content" to the blacklist.

Whitelist:

The whitelist is by default empty. If you add a component in the whitelist, then speedy will only load for that component.
So if you add "com_content" to the whitelist, then speedy will only load for the content component, and not for any other pages.

Hope that helps a bit.

Let me preface by saying I'm a layman when it comes to matters of managing Apache.

To use Speedy, do I have to do anything with my . htaccess file?

Minify? YSlow says that the following are not, but can be minified:

QUOTE:
The following JavaScript files do not appear to be obfuscated nor minified.

In looking at that list, what exactly do I do or enter to minify those scripts? Do I put the entire url in the whitelist>?

It was mentioned that you can look at the URL to get the component name i.e. "com_login".. what if you have SEF on? Where can I go to get the correct name to put in the white list?

Will this work for modules as well?

Thanks

You don't need to enter anything into the whitelist to minify your JavaScript. The whitelist and blacklist are there if a component does not go well with speedy, or if you do not want the overhead of speedy with a component. (Speedy has quite a bit of memory usage at the moment).

You just need to check the parameter that asks if you want to minify JavaScript. Then all JavaScript will be minified.

There is not extra settings you have to add to Apache, or .htaccess etc.

To check if speedy is working, take a look at the HTML of your website. You should have a comment from speedy right at the bottom.

Just out of curiosity, what benefits are you hoping to achieve by running SmartOptimizer alongside Speedy? It doesn't look like there would be a lot of gains.
