Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I get the Joomla Tag Component?
Visit the Joomla Tag Project Page which has download details.

What are the requirements to run Joomla Tag Component?
It is built for both PHP4 and PHP5. However, we only support Joomla1.0 during the Alpha testing. We will release an alpha version for Joomla1.5 as soon s we move to Beta.

Are the Tags XHTML Compliant?
Yes. During the alpha testing, we will be changing the format of the links but they should remain XHTML compliant. If they don't please ask in the forum.

Do the tags follow the rel-tag specification?
The rel-tags specification requires the URL format to be directories. This requires SEF to be enabled in Joomla, and the only supported SEF component at the moment is the old OpenSEF component. We plan to support any other SEF component used for Joomla, so please post your SEF extension in the forum if it is not supported. So if you install OpenSEF or a compatible SEF extension and enable it then the rel-tag specification should be followed.

Can I control the addition of tags by users?
In this alpha release, only registered users can add tags. You can however unpublish any tags added by users.

Suggestion: Top Tags Ability 3 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm currently using your tags component on www.cellubration.com but there is one thing I would love to see, the ability for the tag module to display the top togs.

For instance.

Lets say I have 500 tags on my site, I would love it if I could tell the module "Display Top 10 tags, or Top 20, or however many I specify. Right now I have it set to 20, but it only shows the first 20 in alphabetical order, which doesn't help if I say have a tag for Verizon Wireless since it starts with a V.

Any thoughts would be great.

Advanced SEF would be a great addition. 3 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
Any Chance you'll have ADVANCED SEF by Sakic as part of the SEF program. Its encrypted, but maybe he'd write a quick solution, or allow you access to the encrypted script via an NDA? Not sure but its worth a try.

I'm going to become a pest.

Another great option would be if the Module could be placed Horizontally as well as vertically. Alot of sites are featuring Tag Clouds at the top banner part of their pages and that would help as well.

It does show the top tags. If you specify only 20 tags to show, it will display the most common 20 tags, in alphabetical order. This means the distribution of tags found in the set of 20 it displays will be from A-Z, but only the top 20 from A-Z.

Do you mean you want the tags ordered by their weight? So that the most common tag comes first?

I haven't looked at Advanced SEF but we'll definitely try integrating with it.

It should be able to align vertically as well. Just try placing it in a banner position and it should stretch to fill the space.

Thanks for the help. I actually realized this morning that only the top tags were display. But yes ordering them by Weight would be great. I would love to make the title "Top 20 Tag By Popularity"

Thanks for the banner tip i'll try it shortly and continue my beta testing for you. I love your script, I was gonna try phil taylors script but I use PHP 4.X and it won't work, its nice to see the flexibility in your work.
