The Joomla Instant Messaging extensions allows you to integrate Joomla with an XMPP Server to provide an Instant Messaging solution for your Joomla users. At the moment we only provide solutions for the OpenFire XMPP server, however, other XMPP servers will be supported soon.
The following open source extensions are provided
Joomla OpenFire Integration Plugin
This plugin allows the OpenFire XMPP server to authenticate users to the Joomla database.
Joomla OpenFire Userservice Integration Plugin
This plugin also allows OpenFire to authenticate with Joomla, but does it through the OpenFire userservice plugin, which must be installed and enabled on OpenFire.
SparkWeb Instant Messenger Joomla Component
This is a web based Flash Instant Messaging client integrated with Joomla.
Sparkweb Notifier Plugin
This plugin provides notification of instant messages to logged in Joomla users. Users logged into Joomla will thus be able to send instant messages to each other and be notified immediately.
Community Builder Sparkweb Plugin
This is a Community Builder Plugin that creates a Private Message link inside community builder profiles allowing users to start Instant Messages with other users from the profile.
Installation
- First you need to have an OpenFire XMPP Server. You can either host your own, or have us host the server for you. You can choose an advertising supported free hosting, or a paid plan. Contact us for details.
- You will need a Joomla1.5 website set up. If you do not have Joomla website, we can set up and host it for you or direct you to a suitable host. Contact us for details.
- Once you have the Openfire server and Joomla website ready, download either the Joomla OpenFire Integration Plugin, or the Joomla OpenFire Userservice Integration Plugin and install one of them. Installation and configuration instructions are provided on their seperate product pages.
- Once the plugins are installed and configured, you will need to install the SparkWeb Instant Messenger Joomla Component. This will allow your users to instant message each other through your Joomla website. Other Instant Messaging clients will also work, even desktop IM clients. However, the SparkWeb component allows seamless login from Joomla. Follow the instructions on the SparkWeb Instant Messenger Joomla Component page for its installation and configuration.
- Once you have installed the SparkWeb component, you can create a link to the SparkWeb component in a menu. This allows users to open Sparkweb and start chatting with other users. You can also install the Liveusers module developed for AjaxChat to show an online users list, or friends list, and links to start Private Messaging with them. Liveusers is only available however if you purchase AjaxChat.
- Once you have installed the SparkWeb component, users can start instant messaging each other. However, recepients do not get a notification of an incoming instant message. To get notifications you need to install the Sparkweb Notifier Plugin.
- If you have Community Builder, you can install the Community Builder Sparkweb Plugin so that users can open a private chat window from user profiles.
